2007 - 2012 Lewisburg Downtown Partnership Strategic Plan

With the evolution of the downtown itself, the Lewisburg Downtown Partnership has reached a new stage of life. Thus, while the Partnership will maintain it founding purpose and core values as a strong foundation for prosperity, it will seek to stimulate continued community progress through innovation and renewal in its own work, using the following strategies:

  1. Successfully transition the Partnership framework from a traditional committee structure into a hybrid model with “horizontal” character, where committees share projects and success is measured by project outcomes.
  2. Develop a two-pronged public relations approach that brands downtown Lewisburg as a “shop-live-work” destination and establishes the Partnership’s organizational identity as the successful steward of downtown Lewisburg’s prosperity.
  3. Take action that proactively shapes the downtown’s future and anticipates major challenges.
  4. Claim the Partnership’s place at the economic development table, with a proactive mission to help create innovative jobs and a thriving retail base and to encourage entrepreneurship, the arts, tourism, and “XYZ generation” appeal for downtown.
  5. Fully understand and advance downtown Lewisburg’s position in the region, building on its niche as the “urban” center.
  6. Create a financing mechanism that moves past the current three-year funding cycle into long term sustainability.
  7. Develop a downtown master plan in coordination with Bucknell, Borough and County planning processes.
  8. Actively partner in Susquehanna River development efforts, with goals of reclaiming Lewisburg’s “river town” heritage and connecting downtown to the river.
