Second Community Meeting – Market St. Transportation Study

The Borough of Lewisburg will be hosting a Public Meeting on Tuesday, April 23rd at 6:30pm at the Iron Front Event Space at 434 Market Street #301 of the Chamberlain Building in Downtown Lewisburg.

The consultant team from Traffic Planning and Design (TPD) will be explaining the project scope and methods of data collection as well as early observations from their initial research and monitoring of the Market Street corridor. TPD is contracted by the Borough to analyze traffic volumes and speeds, examine safety and public health issues as well as environmental conditions such as noise, vibrations, and pavement condition. Commercial business activity and overall economic health is also part of this comprehensive study.

Feedback from the public will be sought at the meeting through table exercises, prioritization tasks, and short surveys.

The study is expected to be completed in June with a final presentation to the Borough Council, open to the public, on June 11.

Important note: parking is tricky, so take the free shuttle bus or use the valet bicycle parking coordinated by Walk It! Bike It! Lewisburg. Buses leave every 10 minutes from the Weis north parking lot off Route 15 just north of Lewisburg, with four stops downtown; if you ride your bicycle, take it to the Mifflinburg Bank parking lot at 5th and Market, and Earl’s Bicycles will park it and protect it for you while you walk around the Festival.

The main event of the Celebration is the Lewisburg Arts Festival on Saturday, April 28, with over 100 juried artists displaying their works throughout downtown Lewisburg. There are two stages of performers, with partial support by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. There will be FOUR food areas this year, plus an Artisanal Food area on Market Street at Front Street. Don’t forget the juried Indoor Art Exhibit and the juried photography exhibit, or the Featured Artist exhibit at Faustina’s. And don’t forget the Community Commons, where many of the area’s nonprofits are set up with information and activities (including gym mats to get the wiggles out!).
